How and why are you in the Theater Program?
I am in the theater program because I auditioned for magnet. I auditioned for the magnet because I have always loved the stage and feel empowered when performing. I am in theater because it’s the one place I can truly express myself without judgement. Theater offers a family and community I can’t find anywhere else that’s supportive and compassionate, while challenging you to get better and try new things.
Do you enjoy being president of the Theater program, why or why not?
I enjoy being president of the theater program because I love to organize and lead, and it allows me to help others achieve their goals and aspirations. Although I enjoy it, it can be stressful and demanding, which can make it less enjoyable, but it’s so rewarding when you stick through and work out the issues.
Are you wanting to or planning to pursue Theater in the future?
I am planning to pursue Stage Management in the future. When I started theater I thought I would be pursuing on-stage performance only, but I was sorely mistaken. I was introduced to the technical side my freshman year, and my technical theater teacher, Mr. Juergens, pushed me to continue exploring technical elements, and expanded my understanding of what theater is.
Are you planning on going to college, why or why not?
Tech is such a beautiful side of theater and I am planning on studying it at UCF as a Stage Management BFA major.
What shows have you done or are going to do?
In my 4 years of being in the theater program here at UHS, I have been in (in order from freshman year-now): She Kills Monsters as Gabby, Chaplin the Musical as spotlight operator, Beauty in the Beast as ensemble, Newsies as Tower Mover/Brooklyn Newsie, Gold Dust Woman as run crew, Almost, Maine as Assistant Stage Manager, Something Rotten! as Prop Foreman (I designed and made all the props and was head/leader of my team), A Chorus Line as Val, Unclaimed as Assignment Stage Manager, White Christmas as featured ensemble, All Shook Up as student Choreographer/dance captain/featured ensemble (I won an applause award for Outstanding Choreography), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time as Production Stage manager, Storm in the Barn as Production Stage Manager, and Six the Musical as Anne Boleyn.
