The FFCC (Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit) Band Outdoors Championship is the culminating event for Florida high school marching bands during their fall season. It’s a major event featuring various classes of bands competing in Prelims & Finals, awarding champions for different classes, and an overall Grand Champion. The 2025 FFCC Outdoor Championships took place on November 8th and November 15th.
What began with months of long rehearsals and dedication led to a performance of a lifetime. The final score improved greatly due to the contributions of the percussion section and the color guard, whose precision and energy lifted the entire performance. “We decided to rewrite the majority of part five, and to our benefit, it was the best thing we could have ever done. And it turned out to be such an amazing moment,” said Band Coach Mr. Brown. The decision to make changes late in the season turned out to be a key factor in its success.
In terms of results, the UHS band placed first in their class, third overall, and first in percussion overall. “Honestly, I did not expect the first-place announcement. It was a huge surprise to me and everyone else because I knew everyone as a band performed as best as we could. I knew we were going against great bands as well, so the first-place win was a huge success for us,” said sophomore Arantza Loyo. Their commitment paid off significantly, with a final score improved greatly due to the contributions of the percussion section, whose precision and energy lifted the entire performance.
Ultimately, this championship meant more than just scores and placements. It was about teamwork, resilience, and the shared experience of creating something truly special. “This season has honestly taught me that I can be capable of anything. It was the most fulfilling experience, I had so much fun and it wouldn’t change any moment for the world,” said freshman Kathy Nguyen. For everyone involved, it was a season to remember.
