The University Boys Varsity Volleyball team ended the 2026 season with a 11-11 record, showing major improvements from last year’s 6-17 performance. With six seniors leading the team and a new boys coach, Ms. Guzman, the season was focused on growth, adjustment to a new coaching style, and building chemistry both on and off the court.
The transition to a new coaching style came with challenges throughout the season. “It took time for players to build trust and consistently execute,” said Coach Guzman. Guzman then emphasized that through constant practice and communication, the players started to play for each other and showed better teamwork.
One of the most memorable moments of the season was a five-set victory over West Orange. “We came into the game doubtful because they were better than us on paper, but we didn’t let up and took the win.” said senior Logan Calderon. With this mindset, it aided them to persevere throughout the rest of their season.
Looking ahead, players are already setting high goals for the future. “I want to have multiple scouts and offers and be number one in the county,” said freshman Jaxon Calderon. With a stronger record and a solid foundation under Coach Guzman, the team’s improvement this 2026 spring season shows promising potential for the years to come.
