On December 3rd, UHS showcased its second performing arts magnet recital this year. During this performance theater, chorus, orchestra, band, and the dance magnet all showed off their own skills and pieces they’ve been working on this quarter.
There were three band performances during the recital that consisted of a mix of never before seen group pieces and one solo. The soloist was senior Zachary Lau who played the piece “Caritas” by Michael Burritt on the marimba. “It was one of the most difficult pieces I have ever learned, I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could accomplish and I’m proud of what I was able to do,” said senior Zachary Lau.
The choir demonstrated their determination through two solo performances. One student sang a classical piece called La Partida by Fermin Maria Alvarez entirely in Spanish. “I think my performance went really well in the sense of preparation and emotion,” said junior Suamry Riverol.
The dance magnet closed off the show with a group contemporary performance by their 6th and 7th period magnet classes. “We prepared for the recital for weeks because we were going to perform it for our winter show as well so we used it as a way to get a feel for the stage,” said senior Gabriela Barnes.
The magnet recital allows for all our talented performers in the school to show off their skills in one room. They get to perform fun and challenging pieces that there usually isn’t time for throughout the rest of the school year. “A lot of times we don’t get to see what each magnet track is working on so during performances like these it’s nice to watch other talented students that are in our school,” said Lau.
