After two years of anticipating the next Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, it finally hit cinemas on December 5, making a box office total of 113 million dollars. Nonetheless, simply because it made a ton of money doesn’t automatically make the movie a work of wonders. The movie takes place after Five Nights at Freddy’s 1. Although this may be true, the game itself takes place before Five Nights at Freddy’s 1, in 1987. The movie did a good job at setting the scene for the past, including flashbacks to make the movie more lore-accurate to the games.
The film follows Vanessa, played by Elizabeth Lail, Mike, played by Josh Hutcherson, and Abby, played by Piper Rubio. in the discovery and search of the old Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location. There is a lot to uncover about the mysterious location and why exactly it shut down, and our protagonists make it their mission to shut down all of the toy animatronics within the establishment as well as the Marionette itself to protect the kids and citizens in their town.
The movie itself has a lot of issues, the primary one being how inaccurate the movie is to the games. Yes, the movie does include lore-accurate scenes and lines, however, many of the important events that take place in the games themselves aren’t included in the movie, either that, or they completely changed them. For example, the Marionette was possessed by Charlotte Emily because she was locked out of the pizzeria and killed by William Afton. The movie portrays this event completely differently, showing Charlotte trying to save a kid from Afton and getting killed, dying in the Marionette’s arms.
For people that have played the games and understand the context behind it, to witness the backstory transform from time-to-time throughout the movie was disappointing. Besides the lore gaps, the acting wasn’t nearly as convincing as it should have been, it was extremely easy to tell that they were acting, and didn’t give me the feeling of immersion I, along with other fans, were expecting for the movie. In various scenes, the actors didn’t seem to have that spark that most actors would have while acting.
This sequel aimed to amp up the suspense and the action compared to the first movie, which they successfully met in its goal. The jump scares and the multiple thrilling scenes kept audiences on the edge of their seats. Although the movie did have its negative aspects, it kept crowds entertained and active. Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 was a decent watch besides its plot holes, ultimately receiving an 8/10 rating.
