UHS introduced their first Cougar Connectivity Day on Friday, October 3rd. During this event, students roamed around campus, going in and out of classrooms to check out various clubs’ booths and stations. Students were able to participate in 77 different sessions linked to interests, organizations, athletics, and performing arts.
This event aims to provide students with an opportunity to explore and learn more about what UHS has to offer outside of academics. “So, it’s a chance for us to allow all kids to be part of a student organization in athletics and intercession or performing arts during the school day when they’re already here. It’s a nice chance to let them get involved without requiring them to stay after school for it,” said Principal Ott.
Club sponsors, members, teachers and administrators worked diligently to prepare for this event. “I had all my clubs set up stations in the cafeteria and in my room. MSA went to the cafeteria and handed out information about their club. Cougar Crazies had a sign-up sheet and had a prize wheel to spin for people who signed up. The dance club played Just Dance and allowed students to learn dances alongside them,” said Club sponsor and teacher, Mr. Ritchie.
Overall, students and staff responded to the event with positive feedback. “Yes I enjoyed it very much because of the fun activities. In the club they talked about what they do in the club and that they even do competitions,” said sophomore Chloe Brophy, a student who visited the architecture club booth. students that were already involved enjoyed it and their peers that were more apprehensive, learned what was available.
Connectivity Day presented students with an exploratory period to connect with a plethora of interests on campus. Connectivity Day will continue on this school year with three more days in store for students, one on December 16th and the remainder set during the spring semester. Due to state and district guidelines, students are now requested to fill out a parental consent form in order to participate.
