Jasmine Fajardo placed 4th in the 800 meter run finals and 6th in the 1600 meter run finals.

The Boys and Girls Varsity Track team brought back 4th and 6th place for meter runs as well as 8th in long jump at their last meet. The meet took place last Saturday, February 25th at St. Cloud High School. A total of 32 schools from across Florida participated in various events.

Sophomore Jasmine Fajardo placed 4th in the 800 meter run finals and 6th in the 1600 meter run finals. To Fajardo, preparing for these meets is all about the mindset. “I put my mind to what I want and what goal I’m working towards and I make sure to drink a lot of water,”said Fajardo.

Grant Buehrmann placed 6th in the 3200 meter run. He expressed his frustration with the miscommunication about the schedule, but performed well regardless.“Unfortunately the schedule for this meet was inconsistent with what we were originally told. Although I still placed well, I believe I would have done better if I could have competed at the time I prepared for,” said Buehrmann.

Others on the team performed well- with senior Ivan Rodriguez placing 5th in the high jump category and 6th in the triple jump. Senior Xiyon Green placed 11th on the 100 meter dash and sophomore William Hernandez ranked 11th on the 3200 meter run. “I was able to score 1st place in my heat and 11th overall which is good for me. I have been working on my personal record and training really hard so I am looking forward to the rest of this season,” said Hernandez.

The meet was their second of the season. “The boys and girls teams continue to improve week by week, the girls team is small but mighty despite the girls having less runners, 4 of them are rated in the top 100 in the state.” said Assistant Coach Saul Laird.

Their next meet is on Saturday, March 4th, at Lake Mary High School
