From August 9th through the 11th Disney hosted their annual D23 event where they announced a plethora of new and exciting attractions being added to Disney World. The Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios will be receiving brand new lands while the Animal Kingdom will be retheming older sections of the park along with adding new rides.
At the Magic Kingdom they are going to be building a Villain’s Land near Frontier Land and a Big Thunder Mountain. Although little detail was given during the announcement they did release that there will be new dining options, shops, and 2 attractions with one speculated to be a new coaster based off of Maleficent. “Be prepared, you poor unfortunate souls. It’s going to be a fearless new vision for what a Disney experience can be,” stated Disney experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro at the event.
Also being added to Magic Kingdom is a new Cars Land which will replace the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer’s Island. “The American West has always been about keeping your eyes on the horizon … That goes for miners in the mountains, bears from the country, a princess from the bayou … or a racecar from the big city,” said D’Amaro. Similarly to Villains Land, there will be 2 attractions with one being more thrilling and the other being geared towards families. Unlike the radiator springs in Disneyland, the Cars Land in Magic Kingdom will be a brand new layout straight from the mind of the imagineers.
Hollywood Studios is receiving a Monsters Inc. Land and a new rollercoaster. The location of the land hasn’t been released yet but fans believe it will be replacing the animation courtyard in 2025. The new ride will be Disney’s first ever suspended coaster and will mimic riding through the door warehouse in the Monsters Inc. factory. “Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride,” stated D’Amaro.
The last addition to Disney world will be new rides replacing Dinoland in Animal Kingdom. The area will be rethemed to Tropical Americas and will feature an Encanto and Indiana Jones ride. The Encanto ride will be trackless and take place in their house, the casita, on the day Antonio first received his gift. The new Indiana Jones ride will be different then the current one in Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea and will take you through a mayan temple being explored by Indiana Jones.
The Tropical Americas Land will be starting construction this year in phases and officially open in 2027. Monsters Inc. Land along with Cars Land will start being built in 2025 and their opening dates have yet to be released. Since so little information has been released regarding the Villains Land, neither a construction date nor opening date have officially been stated although sources close to Disney say construction is already underway.
