The New Amsterdam series is a medical drama that shows the struggles between doctors and their patients. The show highlights the hardships that the doctors go through with the stress of determining their patients’ futures. The show stars head doctor Max Goodwin, portrayed by Ryan Eggold.
Dr. Max Goodwin is brilliant, charming and the new medical director at America’s oldest public hospital. While he’s set on tearing down the bureaucracy to provide exceptional care, the doctors and staff are not so sure. They’ve heard this before and no one else has delivered on those promises. Not taking no for an answer, Max disrupts the status quo and proves he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital, and return it to the glory that put it on the map. This hospital is also known as the only hospital in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island, and the president of the United States, all under one roof.
Directed by Michael Slovis, the cinematography in New Amsterdam is certainly one of a kind. He shot the most beautiful scenes as Slovis managed to capture the moment in serious, light hearted and even depressing scenes. This is most certainly one of the highlights in New Amsterdam.
Freema Agyeman, hailing from London, plays Dr Helen Sharpe. Viewers can really tell that Dr. Sharpe “cares” about her position (and Goodwin) who eventually end up as lovers with the amazing chemistry between the characters. Another important role is Vijay Kapoor, played by Anupam Kher, an Indian actor from Shimla. Kher’s portrayal of the character is certainly a heartwarming one, a doctor who’s always training to make people feel happy no matter the situation.
The entire production of the New Amsterdam series shows how the producers and the cast care about every ounce of this show. The creator of New Amsterdam, David Schulner, and with the help of his production team has shown extreme passion and dedication to the series. New Amsterdam is truly one of a kind and really shows how not only do patients have personal issues but so do the doctors.
