On September 16th, Johnny’s House radio crew held their morning show from 6AM-10AM in University High School’s plaza. The hosts, Johnny Magic, Sondra Rae, and Brian Grimes, chose UHS to be highlighted in their Football Friday session, giving players and students interested in the opportunity to go on air with them briefly.

During football season, Johnny’s House Station picks a school to highlight on their Football Friday session, and among those candidates was University, after cheerleading coach Janet Sterner applied. “I always listen to the station on my way to work, as soon as they announced they were taking applicants I reached out to tell them about UHS. We were fortunate enough to be one of those schools selected,” said Sterner

Players were in the spotlight Friday morning, as they were given the floor on the show for an hour, giving them the opportunity to speak to the hosts and answer questions given to them.“It was a fun experience to have, all the hosts were very respectful and kind to us. I truly loved it,” said varsity player junior Alex Ruedae.

The football team wasn’t the only group present to represent the school. Concert Choir and Dance Team performed, SGA, Latino’s in Action and Varsity Cheerleaders were there, as well as members of the culinary program, who provided Johnny’s crew with food. “The performance for Johnny’s house was a great opportunity, and it provided extra motivation, along with the fact that as a group, we all wanted to show what we can do to the students watching also. It was really fun getting to do that,” said senior chorus member Zuhair Ishraque.
