It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley is a documentary about late singer songwriter Jeff Buckley and his esteemed music career. The film released on August 8th of this year in select theaters around the country and has grossed nearly million dollars so far. The film premiered originally at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2025. The documentary was directed by Amy Berg and distributed by Magnolia Pictures. It also features at the end of the film, a twenty-seven minute segment of unseen footage of a Jeff Buckley performance.
This documentary went through the entirety of Jeff Buckley’s life, his childhood and subsequent abandonment by his musician father, Tim Buckley. A large part of the documentary was centered around Buckley being haunted by his absent father and not wanting to be compared to him when he was pursuing his own music career.
The film used artistic visuals along with playing Buckley’s own music in the background to go along with the story. I found the documentary to be hauntingly captivating and emotional. The end of the film surrounding Buckley’s death and the fallout after was especially moving, carrying a deeply somber weight. I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary and believe that it provides excellent insight into Buckley’s life and his struggles with his career and mental health. I recommend that if you are a fan of his music, you see this documentary.
