University High School recently hosted a job fair to help inspire students on what career path they may want to pursue. With a wide range of jobs, the fair is set to help our students at UHS with the difficult choice of a career path.
Students were given the opportunity to visit the fair throughout the day, with many different jobs, ranging from careers like working in the food industry to attending flight schools, which could earn 100 thousand dollars a year. According to Mr. O’Donal, our College and Career Specialist stated that, “the idea of our school advisory committee, they wanted to have a fair for students who weren’t necessarily going to college and to show opportunities for students who weren’t seniors yet.”
The school’s idea behind this was to inspire students to choose career paths. “The idea was that we’d have as many different types of companies, schools, and careers as possible so that when you come in, if you’re undecided, you’ll come out with a better idea,” said Mr. O’Donal. The school successfully gathered a good number of jobs and set up tables inside the gym. “A lot of phone calls and emails went out to make this fair happen,” said O’Donal.
This has proved effective for students, as some who have gone to the fair have gone and been inspired by certain jobs. “I’ve had so many students over the past 3 years have had no idea what they were doing, then walked into the fair and saw just the right table where everything clicked, and then figured out exactly what they were gonna do after they graduate,” said O’Donal. Overall, the job fair has proved to be a great success for students, being a great way for students to have opportunities to get into a good-paying job.
