The annual Prism show, which was moved from winter to spring, showcased student’s performances from their program including band, orchestra, jazz, guitar, piano, and chorus. The show was hosted in the PAC on the evening of April 2nd.
While each of the programs were preparing for their own spring shows, they also brought their performance to the stage for Prism. “My favorite performance in Prism is probably the ending when the band, orchestra, and choir are all together. I thought it sounded amazing to blend everyone’s sound and voice together. The Alma Mater is also fun, because you get everyone together to celebrate the end while making a U,” said senior Xiaolan Liu.
The guitar program chose the song “Techno” by Jurg Kindle as a way to be able to challenge themselves so that they were able to look back on the moment and proudly say that they were able to produce their best efforts. The song was also enjoyed by the group and was considered a great song to listen to. “I wanted to perform, not only to honor the guitar program, but I also wanted to spend my last year putting in work after 4 long years. After playing the piece for the concert, I felt that we had reached that goal we were looking for, playing to the best of our abilities,” said senior Eddin Thet.
The goal of the Prism show was to highlight the talent of each respective program that participated in the show and allow students to be able to express themselves as musicians while being able to cheer on their peers. “It was amazing. I think Prism is a concert that everyone, especially aspiring musicians, should experience at least once at UHS. Prism is a place to be inspired and motivated by watching others and pushing yourself to do as well as others,” said senior Mason Thatcher.
