HBO Max’s original show, The Pitt, aired January 9th this year and released their final episode on April 10th of this year. This fifteen episode medical show about the Emergency Department in Pittsburgh, with each episode representing an hour of their shift. The show stars Noah Wyle as Michael Robinavitch, the Emergency Department’s attending.
This show was praised highly for its realism when it comes to portraying medicine and specifically the ER. Not being in the medical field myself I can’t attest to the accuracy of its representation of the ER’s environment. This show was fast-paced, gritty, and high energy. I felt like it kept just the right amount of keeping the viewer on edge as the ER stays on the edge of being out of control. The show also brought attention to many of the real issues that healthcare professionals face today like the nursing shortage, long ER wait times, and aggression against staff, and mental health aspects.
The performances from The Pitt’s cast were absolutely phenomenal and coupled with the writing, it made you empathize and want to root for every character. Every character undergoes their own growth throughout the season, despite the actual time spent with the characters being a mere fifteen hours. If you enjoyed shows like Grey’s Anatomy and ER, but wanted more of a focus on the medical side of the show, The Pitt is a perfect fit.
The second season of the show has been greenlit and will premiere next year in January. This next season is set to take place ten months after the events of the first on the Fourth of July. It will consist of the same main cast and reportedly won’t include any flashbacks.
