Former Football Coach and weightlifting teacher Jeremy Palmer has taken a leave of absence in order to continue treatment and recovery from his cancer diagnosis. Taking his place is Dave Carrington, who has 28 years of experience both coaching and teaching weightlifting, 11 of those years being right here in Orlando.
In an announcement Coach Carrington has a theme for this year “why not U? Why not US? chasing greatness at UHS.” This shows the coach’s dedication to the team and wanting greatness for his students. Some credibility behind his career is winning a national title in 2008. “One practice we will do is called seven on seven which is focused on passing going against other teams. Learning to practice passing the ball is one of the most important things in football,” said Coach Carrington.
Most student athletes are wondering how Coach Carrington will perform in the next football season. “I have high expectations for this coach because he has many wins in his career and has been teaching for a very long time,” said sophomore Cesar Ramirez. Ramirez believes Coach Carrington will help UHS win more games in the next season with more practice over the summer. “One of my weaknesses I hope to improve before the next season is my overall running speed. Compared to other people we are going against, I can do better with more practice and drills,” said Ramirez.
