Tyler, the Creator visited Orlando’s Kia Center on March 22nd for his new Chromakopia world tour. This concert featured songs from his new album of the same name along with other albums across his discography like Flower boy and Igor.
The setlist was incredible. He played many fan favorite songs from his most recent album Chromakopia all the way back to one of his first albums Goblin. The wide variety of hits made sure every fan from all eras of his career had something to jam out to. He kept the crowd engaged even during slower popular songs like “IFHY” by encouraging us to sing along and to finish the lyrics for him. During more upbeat songs like “Tamale” he had crazy effects and insane energy on stage which made everyone, even the nosebleed, feel the energy high.
The lighting and set design was easily one of the best I’ve seen in any concert. He had two stages that he would go between during the set via a bridge he also utilized as a stage that crossed over the pit. The smaller stage in the middle was decorated like a living room with nods to his different eras and a record player where he’d play his different albums. On the bridge he would play energetic songs which were amplified by him being over the crowd and making it rain over them with dollar bills. The larger stage was more plain, but I wouldn’t say it was boring, due to the amazing lighting and effects. Each song had different effects, whether it be fireworks or colorful spotlights, that perfectly enhanced the vibe of the music. During some more intense songs like “New Magic Wand,” Tyler would create a blackout and flashing lights to build up to the beat drop that boosted the impact of climax.
There were two openers, Lil Yachty and Paris Texas, who fit his concert very well. I believe the best performance came from Paris Texas though. Although they are not as well known they had so much energy on stage which really rubbed off onto the audience. Their songs were intense, catchy, and had amazing beat drops. They encouraged the crowd to form a mosh pit on multiple occasions and had amazing lighting similarly to Tyler. Lil Yachty had a good set too, although he was not as hyped up as the group before him. His songs were more well known so being able to sing along made up for the slightly more calm set.
Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend attending this tour. Tyler is an exceptional performer and does an amazing job making the audience feel as hyped as he is during the show. Even if you don’t know his songs, the energy from the fans combined with the mesmerizing set design is well worth the cost of admission.
