As this school year’s spring season unfolds, the Varsity Softball team faces a few challenges during their games. Despite this, players continue to push forward, embodying a strong sense of resilience. We handle tough losses by identifying what we did wrong and try our best to improve,” said senior Kiara Guzman. While they currently hold a record of 1-6, the team acknowledges their tough losses while also striving to heighten their performance.
The girls lost their most recent game against Timber Creek, which ended with a score of 0-18. While the team had a strong start and were ahead, ultimately they fell short. “Overall it’s a bit tough not winning much, but it’s still nice that we come together and have a good time at the end of the day even if we lost the night before” said Castro. Although they lost the game, the girls still put up a formidable fight against the other team and had fun while doing so. On February 25th, the team won their game against Jones High School with a final score of 28-18.
For many on the team, the joy of playing comes from the collective spirit of the team rather than simply the score they recieve. “My favorite part is batting, and how it’s fun being on the team because of how we all come together”, said senior Atalia Castro. On a personal level players enjoy being a part of the team because of their teammates. “I love being on this team because we are always looking out for one another on and off the field,” said Guzman. This unity of this team has been a key factor in keeping them all motivated, even when the scoreboard isn’t in their favor.
With another game near, the team has been practicing their perfecting their plays, improving their hitting, and trying to understand how well the opponent team plays. While losses may sting, the University High school softball team continues to find strength within their unity and determination to improve. Regardless of the outcome of each game, the team knows that they had fun and the bonds they’ve formed are what truly makes the season worth it.
