The Varsity boys baseball team has had a bit of a rough season. The team has played 12 games, and has a total record of 4-8. The team has had some good performances despite this, with big wins at Maynard Evans High School, as well as Oak Ridge High School.
Recent losses have affected the team’s record, sophomore Rafael Gonzalez said that baseball is a “really mental” game. Hopes are still up, however, as the season goes on, there’s still hope down the line that the next 5 games can be an improvement for the team.
The team has had somewhat of a rough season, but the team has its hopes up for the next game. Sophomore Rafael Gonzalez says that “We feel good, we feel more confident than ever for this game.” The team then went on to win the game 7-5. Despite the game being close, they still won, hopefully being more of a motivation for the team.
Rafael Gonzalez also shared some about what they have been doing to prepare for games, saying that what helps them is, “practicing the fundamentals and basics, it helps us win games.” The team also has to be mentally prepared, “The games are really mental, so it’s really mental preparation that we need,” said Rafael Gonzalez.
When asked what the team did well on wins such as their 16-1 win here against Oak Ridge High School and their 14-0 win at Maynard Evans, he said that the best things that the team had done were “Mainly our pitching, hitting, and our defense.”
