Varsity Boys Track & Field wrapped up their spring season earlier this month, outperforming past seasons by a long shot and paving the way for the Florida State championship competition. UHS placed as high as 5th out of 132 students at Lake Mary’s opening during the 100-meter dash finals, performing somewhat equally, if not under, for other finals.
Boys Track & Field is experiencing one of their best seasons yet, with UHS scoring high during the Bears Invitational, a FHSAA qualifying game, and achieving first and second place spots during Winter Park 600 meter run finals. “I think we’ve done pretty well overall, like increasing our speed, getting better as a team, competing, etcetera,” said junior Nicholas Baker.
The team has also earned 1st place at the Lake Mary 400-meter dash, and 110-meter hurdles finals, while scoring high in other finals. “The track and field team keeps improving under the leadership of Coach Friday. For the first time, he earned a trophy for our second-place performance at the East River meet and the team that won first place is one of the best teams in the state. Overall, this team is one of the best teams we’ve ever had,” stated Track & Field Coach Saul Laird.
