Boys Varsity Volleyball prevailed in their match against Boone High School on March 13th. The game went down to the wire during the third set they played with a final score of 25-19, 25-19, 27-25. The team is currently ranked third in the district and the season has come with its own set of challenges. To combat these, the team is working diligently on their performance with consistent practices after school.
Volleyball Coach Tremaine has worked very hard on improving the team working with each player making sure they get the help they need to win games in the future. “Freshman and JV have the gym first and then varsity, so I’m here until 6:30,” said Coach Tremaine.
The UHS varsity team has faced off against formidable opponents such as Winter Park High School, a state level team that is first in the district with a resounding record of 28-1. Our losing streak should improve as they face off more lenient teams. One major problem for the volleyball team is that many of our players are leaving for other counties. “My struggle is that a lot of our players are leaving to go to Seminole county,” said Tremaine.
Although their current record is 1-5, players remain hopeful that this will picking up in the future by polishing their teamwork and independently getting better. “Our team is good at bringing the energy and hype. We need to work on fundamentals of the sport to have a better season next year,” stated sophomore Justin Le.
