Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been in office since 2019 and has accumulated a total of $6.7 billion dollars worth of tax cuts during this period. He plans on cutting the cost of ammunition and guns and patenting it as “second amendment summer.” He also plans on helping families and corporations across the state. “Before I became governor, we never came close as a state to doing even a billion dollars in tax relief. We’ve done, just since I’ve become governor, close to $7 billion,” said DeSantis to the Orlando Sentinel.
This sudden addition in tax cuts has been implemented as a way to control the rising levels of inflation that are afflicting the nation. “We have to just deal and play the hand we’re dealt, given what’s happened in Washington. So we’ve taken a lot of steps over the past three years in particular to provide relief for Floridians to help get them through this period of ‘Biden inflation,’ said DeSantis to Florida Phoenix.
One of the major plans that DeSantis has is to create these tax holidays that will occur throughout the year leading to a sudden drop in prices. The first one will be June 1st to June 14th and August 24th to September 6th. This will be dedicated to lowering the prices of things that are needed to help themselves during hurricane season. A back-to-school sales tax holiday from July 29th – August 11th which will allow for the purchase of items like clothing and footwear selling for less than $100; for school supplies that cost less than $50 and for personal computers and cell phones with a sales price of $1,500 or less;
A ‘tool-time’ sales tax holiday from Sept. 1st-7th for specific tools commonly used by skilled trade workers such as hand tools, power tools, work gloves and toolboxes,
And a ‘Freedom Month’ tax holiday from July 1st-July 24th for items related to recreational activities such as tickets for live music events, sporting events and movies, plays and ballet performances.
DeSantis is providing a corporate income tax credit for the next three years for businesses that hire people with disabilities.“If you look at some companies that have done this like Publix, they are providing opportunities for all of these great people that have unique abilities and have certain challenges, and these are very productive citizens. And they do a great job,” stated DeSantis.
