The UHS Varsity boys soccer team recently wrapped up their winter season this year with a final record of 10-2-2. Every game brought challenges, but the team rose to meet them with skill, strategy, and teamwork, making this season one to remember.
One of the season’s most defining moments was their golden victory against Winter Park with a score of 2-0. Many players said this was the best game this season since Winter Park is a big UHS rivalry. This game also solidified the team’s standing as one of the most skilled and strongest in the district. This was an especially memorable season for UHS seniors who were honored on January 9 during senior night, a celebration of their leadership on the field and contributions to the team. Many parents and friends filled the stands, cheering the players on and resulting in a score of 8-1 against Evans High School. “There are a lot of seniors on the team so it was all our last year and we wanted to enjoy it,” said seniors David Colon and Hassan Hakim.
This season carried many impressive goals and talented players. “This is a team that comes prepared everyday; they work hard and set high expectations for themselves,” said Coach Hamley. This year’s balance of skilled seniors and rising underclassmen players resulted in a well-rounded roster. It was clear from watching the team play that they had great chemistry and worked together strongly. “Our best trait is ball possession,” says junior Thien Tran. Ball possession takes strong teamwork and skill, proving the team’s chemistry on the field.
With an impressive season behind them, the boys varsity soccer team has raised the bar for future seasons. “We have quality juniors and sophomores and junior varsity has had a great season.” As we bid farewell to our graduating seniors, Coach Hamley expressed optimism for a stellar season next year. With a continuous improvement and a strong, motivational coach, future seasons for UHS boys varsity soccer look bright.
