President-Elect Donald Trump’s criminal proceeding involving his hush money trial and his 34 felony counts of falsified business records concluded on Friday Jan. 10th. Trump is now attempting to block his sentencing which has been denied by both the state appeals court and the Supreme Court. New York Prosecutors wrote in a 38-page filing to argue against the justices taking “the extraordinary step of intervening.”
Trump still had to appear in court on Friday morning for sentencing of his falsifying of business records in order to pay hush money to Stormy Daniels, the adult film star he was alleged to have had an affair with. Juan Merchan, the trial judge, has stated that he does not plan on giving Trump any jail time. It is likely that he would face an unconditional release, but the conviction would stain his permanent record. No president or former president has ever been convicted of a felony before so this charge would make Trump the first in history.
Trump’s trial led to an official statement from the judge that he would have an unconditional discharge in this case. He will receive no prison time or probation and the President Elect continues to appeal his case as he prepares to go into office. This marks the end of this case regarding his proceedings with Stormy Daniels.
