SGA recently hosted their annual Thanksgiving food drive for the Orange County Youth Shelter. Students pitched in various food donations and cutlery in the weeks leading up to break. These items were then picked up from UHS and transported to the shelter on November 21st.

This is the fifth year our school has partnered with the Orange County Youth Shelter to provide meals for families in need during the Thanksgiving season. Our school  aims to up our donation amount yearly, and has been able to achieve this goal. “It’s an SGA tradition that we donate every year, and every year we try to donate more,” said SGA sponsor Ms. Rasmussen. The student in charge of the fundraiser was senior SGA member Anabella Downs, who confirmed that our school had successfully exceeded the original set goal of 93, and managed to donate to a total of 95 families. “We had a set goal for 93 houses, but we actually ended up reaching 95,” said Downs.

With this year’s donation goal reached,  SGA has continued their tradition of giving back to the local community. “We are providing food for families in need, that in itself is something that we can do for our community,” said Downs. SGA will continue to hold fundraising events such as this one throughout the school year.
