University High School set the stage for Homecoming weekend with their first Pep Rally of the year on Friday, November 1st. The Golden Cougars performed a special dance, cheerleaders showed off their skills, and students participated in games.
The Homecoming Festival was filled with different stands for UHS clubs such as Asian Student Association, Junior Class Cabinet, Muslim Student Association, Theater. “My activity for my club MSA was doing henna on students and staff…we planned to bring it out and let people try it, and everyone who came by to do henna seemed to love it, especially right before homecoming,” said MSA President senior Aleshba Iqbal. Many clubs had creative activities such as speed games, painting by number, drink stands, face paint, henna, and many more to promote.
The UHS homecoming football game was initially scheduled for October 12th against Cypress Springs, but was pushed back to November 1st due to Hurricane Milton. Following the homecoming festival, students attended the game against East River. Despite ending the season with a loss, the stadiums were filled with school spirit, especially with the Homecoming Kings, Jason Curry and Dillon Romotar, and Queen, Sabrina Montanez, being announced at halftime.
Student Government Association decorated to the theme: City of Stars and La La Land with purple, blue, and lilac evening colors decorating the school courtyard and gym. “SGA members stayed after school on Friday a day before homecoming to set up tables and backdrops. We worked with tedious details to make sure everything matched the theme of homecoming. On Saturday morning we did final touches and details and worked with the lights, then the dance was ready for students that night,” said SGA member junior Emily Le. SGA also put up unique centerpiece vases with flowers and miniature city models to correlate with the “City of Stars.”
