University High School’s Girls Varsity Volleyball team has had a successful season with an overall record of 10-6. The team sharpened their skills between games, allowing them to succeed throughout the season and celebrate their wins.
Despite some difficulties for the girls on the court, they continually pushed themselves and put their best foot forward during each game. “Our serving skills and passing skills helped our team succeed throughout the season,” said Junior Varsity player Audrey Cuevas. The team refined their skills during routine practices. Practices were intense, but players made the effort to have a fun time after training was over. “It helps the team stay motivated,” said Cuevas. The girls have worked hard, but they have also been able to enjoy their season and get to know each other better. “Being on varsity for the first time, being able to play with the girls and getting close with them was exciting,” said Gabriella Cruz.
Players reflected on their team’s improvement after their game against East River. “Our first game, against East River, we lost, but when we played them again, we played better and worked together to win against them the second time,” said Junior Varsity player, Dariana Roman Molina. The team’s energy and optimism helped strengthen performance in subsequent games. Senior Varsity player Nyah Milligan did backflips during matches to raise team spirit and celebrate the girls’ accomplishments. Many players mentioned that Nyah brought a “positive attitude” and “exciting energy” to the team, helping them dive head first into every volleyball match this season.
