Iran launched a major airstrike attack on Israel Tuesday evening, October 1st. This attack was a response to previous attacks, likely in retaliation for its recent killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and an Iranian commander in Lebanon.
Addressing the damage from this attack it is reported that, “Most of the nearly 200 missiles were intercepted by Israeli and U.S. defenses, and there were no known fatalities in Israel from the attack,” according to CNBC. Most of the missles meant for the attack did not cause much destruction, damage has not yet been fully evaluated.
In response to the attack Israel launched an attack on Beirut, “Israel launched intense strikes on Beirut targeting Hezbollah’s presumed new leader as he met with other senior militants,” an Israeli official told NBC News. The IDF is still assessing whether Hashem Safieddine was killed. An airstrike also cut off a key road that thousands had been using for the purpose of safety.
The U.S. claims to have had no preliminary knowledge of these events. “The U.S. was not given advanced warning of the attack and no American personnel were injured,” said Pentagon press secretary Pat Ryder. As both countries continue to strike each other, more civilian lives have been killed during the onslaught . Iran has vowed that “his country and its allies would not back down.” It is unknown how this war will continue to unfold, and many innocent lives have been lost in both countries.
