The UHS boys Bowling team is off to a strong start this season. The team currently holds a record of 7-1 with upcoming games still left to go.
The team is working on improving consistency and picking up spares. Every spare can put a team farther in the lead. “We ended up winning the game with 40 more pins knocked down than the opposing team. This shows that getting spares is important because the difference was only 4 spares,” said senior Mason Thatcher. The team has competed at meets with several schools across the county. “My favorite game to play this season was definitely Winter Park because we came in there as the underdogs but were able to shut them down with our performance.
Being team Captain, Thatcher plays a role called the anchor, meaning that he plays last and is given more frames (chances to knock down pins), granting him more pressure to perform well. “I joined the team freshman year after seeing their advertisement on Freshman Friday and thought it was pretty cool. I kept at it and started seeing some major improvements in my game during my sophomore year,” said Thatcher.
As the season progresses, the team has 4 remaining games left to play. The team that they are looking out for the most in terms of competition is East Rivers. “I’m proud of how the team is doing and how well their practice is. I would say Bowling is friendly to having new players and will always welcome to have new people who wish to try the sport,” said Bowling Coach Mr. Edward Lebeda.
