On September 16th, the UHS Varsity Swimming teams competed at the Lake Howell Aquatic Center against Geneva and Circle Christian, to celebrate their Senior Night. The Boys Varsity team won 1st place in several events such as the 50 Freestyle, the 500 Freestyle, and the 400 Freestyle relay. The Girl’s team also won 1st place in the 500 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle relay.
Although it’s still early in the season, this is their last meet competing with UHS for our seniors. “It was definitely sad to see all of the Seniors on the team, knowing it’s their last year. We had a lot of fun competing with them at the meet, it’s bittersweet to see them go,” said junior Joyce Ruiz.
The team is still committed to making improvements and placing higher in different meets and competitions. The team gives them a chance to form friendships and strive for self-improvement. “We compete against each other to practice for our meets, it gets us competitive and keeps us improving,” said junior Mateo Alvarado.
They ended the night in celebration with the Circle Christian swimmers, who were also hosting a Senior Night. “Senior night was great. It rained, but that didn’t stop the competition or the senior night festivities. Our underclassmen swimmers made posters for the senior swimmers. Each senior walked through a tunnel created by their teammates and was honored one by one,” said Coach Ashley Steadman.
