Jonathan Scharr has been a teacher at UHS for the past nine years where he has taught AP US History, AP European History and US History. He was also a former football coach for four years at UHS. “This is my 9th year teaching and 10 overall as an educator.” said Scharr. He went to UCF for a degree in History and plans to return for his Masters in American History “ I got a degree in History from UCF and I am preparing to go back to school for my Masters in American History,” said Scharr. He is an avid reader and aspiring children’s author and has written two books. He is currently reaching out to agents to represent him. “I am an aspiring children’s author with two books that are edited and currently reaching out to agents for representation,” said Scharr.
What were your previous jobs before teaching
I’ve had lots of jobs from lifeguard to forklift driver to youth minister. But my favorite of all has been teaching.
How many years of teaching have you done in total and at UHS?
This is my 9th year teaching and 10th overall as an educator.
Do you sponsor any clubs or encourage students to join these clubs?
I don’t sponsor any clubs, but I was a football coach for about 4 years here at UHS.
What course contents do you teach?
Currently I am teaching AP US and AP European history along with Standard US History.
What made you decide to teach AP US History, US History, and European History and learn it?
I have always loved history and had a great professor at Valencia. I took every history class he taught and modeled a lot of what I do in the classroom after him. I got a degree in History from UCF and I am preparing to go back to school for my Masters in American History.
How do you aim to assist your students in the learning process?
I think History is fun and I try to make my class as warm and fun as possible. History is filled with great stories and drama and I pride myself in being a great storyteller and try to get them to put themselves into the story of history.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of school?
I love to read and I am an aspiring children’s author with two books that are edited and currently reaching out to agents for representation.
