On September 5th, Helping the Homeless members met up after school in the cafeteria. The group made sandwiches to be donated to the University Seventh-Day Adventist Church, as a community service event for attendees.
Club members collaborated to make approximately 100 PB&J sandwiches for the University Seventh-Day Adventist Church. “We had teams of people working together at different tables, each making sandwiches in an assembly line,” said HTH President Shyla Nguyen. The purpose of the drive was to encourage students at UHS to get involved and to inform them of the prevalent hunger issue in our area. “By hosting these events in our club, we give our members the opportunity to give back to their community while also spreading awareness for the hunger problem in Orlando,” said President Nguyen.
The Club also hosts other schoolwide and community activities. “We maintain the school’s Cougar Closet, host drives for various items such as clothing or hygiene items, and volunteer at food banks,” said President Nguyen. The club aims to expand its community outreach and continue its mission to make a difference on a local level. “The spirit of the club is to help those in need. Simple and important work for the greater good of the community.” said club sponsor Ms. Jaime Tremaine.
As always, Helping the Homeless is welcoming new members to join them. Their next meeting will take place on October 3rd and all students are invited to come.
