The monthly Cougar Council meeting, ran by SGA, was held Friday September 6th. During the meeting, organization representatives discussed upcoming events after a brief overview of the new rules and regulations for clubs this year.
The main event discussed was Hoco Fest, which is to be held on October 10th. This is the new annual festival held a few days prior to our homecoming dance which features fun activities held by our schools clubs. Officers at the meeting were told they all must participate in some way and start organizing their booths soon. “We have to start planning about what we are going to do to represent our club on that day and choosing if we want it to be a fundraiser or not,” said HOSA officer junior Gabriela Castellanos.
Clubs were also notified about the new rules regarding the number of members required in each type of club and the level of participation in school events that is expected. “Interest clubs require 10 members and service clubs require 20. Also all clubs must attend every event held at UHS,” said Latin club representative junior Sebastian Bojan. Regulations regarding attendance were also discussed to improve turn out for each club meeting. “75% of members have to attend all meetings,” stated GSA officer junior Spencer Martin.
New methods of organization for the clubs were also instated. A club calendar was created and shared between all club officers to avoid scheduling conflicts between clubs.“One representative per club would gain access to a google calendar and all clubs would put meet days, certain events, and stuff like that to make sure things aren’t overlapping with one another,” said SGA vice president senior Autumn Johnson. Additionally, SGA made a new Remind to smooth out communication between their SGA vice president and the club’s leaders. “One member of each club has to join the Remind with the autumn who’s in charge of these cougar council meetings,” said junior Gabriela Castellanos.
