Is Marvel considered dead in 2024? In recent years, the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) has faced increasing reviews and mixed reactions from fans and critics. Many questions have been raised as to whether this once irrefutable franchise is losing its spark, as its recent releases have fluctuated in quality. These changes have left audiences disappointed, which is reflected by the diminishing box office revenue.
At the same time, some fans were fed up with the news about the Multiverse. They had hoped that a fourth-wall of humor such as Deadpool & Wolverine would be the movie that blew up the entire system. In the film, the anti-heroes, who are played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, try to stop Cassandra Nova from wiping out all worlds that aren’t The Void. They succeed in their mission and manage to bring life back to Deadpool’s plane. So, not only is the Multiverse out there, it’s stronger than ever.
That being said, critics of the Multiverse have reasons to feel cautiously optimistic about the MCU future. Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t shut down the possibility of Marvel having more movies about the cross-dimensional adventure, but fans have been feeling that it is the end of an era. The film acknowledges people’s frustrations with Marvel’s need for multiple storylines and criticizes the franchise. It still remains to be seen if the Multiverse will truly be put to an end after the recent movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which will probably go either way. Nonetheless, there has been a rumor about Doctor Strange 3 and how it could melt the Marvel’s multiverse all over again. There will likely be more dimension adventures in the near future.
Over the past 15 years, Marvel has dominated the film industry as an unchallenged champion of superhero cinema. However, there is speculation of new competitors coming to challenge this. There are few things that are hotter than Sony’s animated Spider-Verse right now. James Gunn has declared that next year 2025 is the year his Superman legacy arrives. Don’t be surprised if DC is running things in a few years with Gunn’s access to some of the most popular superheroes of all time. Will no longer being No.1 motivate the MCU to go back to basics and return to the things that made them the best or will they continue to fail fans worldwide?
