In a remarkable showcase of musical excellence, University High School’s Choir performed at the Music Performance Assessment (MPA) district competition held at Edgewater High School. All five of the choirs—Grandy Boci, Cantors, Chante, Harmonious, and Concert Choir, received the coveted superior rating.
This accomplishment is a testament to the choir’s commitment and preparation. The dedicated vocalists extended their practice sessions beyond the regular school hours, with some students even attending on President’s Day. This extra effort was in addition to their preparation for a previous concert, underscoring their dedication to the craft. “It was really hard managing all my extracurricular activities but it helped that all the teachers work with each other and it allows students to participate in everything, but at the end of the day I had so much fun at MPA, I am really excited,” said Senior Rose Negron.
The choirs’ directors, whose leadership has been instrumental in guiding the students, expressed immense pride in their achievement. “I am really proud of all the choirs for receiving superior awards during Districts but now we have to work hard for states, I am very excited for our students,” said John Dunn.
The excitement is palpable as UHS gears up to take all five choirs to the state level competition, a first in the school’s history. The state MPA, which will be hosted in Lakeland, is highly anticipated by the choirs and their supporters. “We did really good better than I expected from all the time we had to prepared especially for the cantoras pieces but I do think we deserve the superior and i think we did a lot better than i thought on sight reading too and i am sure we will get superior for states too,” said senior Gianna Gracias
The Choir is a glowing example of how dedication, teamwork, and a love for the arts can harmonize into a symphony of success. As they prepare to grace the stage, the choirs carry not only their superior ratings but also the pride and support of their school, peers, and families.
