UHS students have been recognized for their achievements in both Varsity Girls soccer and the Band Magnet program. Local news channels, WFTV and News 6 showcased the remarkable talent present within the school’s student body.
The Band Magnet was recently commended by News 6, not only for their exceptional abilities but also for the close-knit bond that the students share. Both an article was published and a television segment was streamed by the channel, praising the program for their outstanding achievements. More importantly, the story focused on the student’s passion for the music and how inspiring their dedication to each other is. “I am so very proud that the hard work and dedication that this program has had in the past couple years is leading to some big recognition,” said senior Matthew Pedrero. The Big band performed a jazzy rendition of Sinatra’s “Let’s Fall In Love” on March 6th at Rio Pinar Golf, live on WKMG Hits the Road.
The Varsity Girls soccer team was featured on Channel 9 WFTV’s new segment, “Feel Whole Moments.” The team was honored for their formidable 8-0 win against Oak Ridge. Senior Yuselly Hincapie was spotlighted for her impressive performance during the game. “I have been on the news before for different things, but I have never been in a sports feature. It was great to be recognized for something I like to do.” said junior Zaniya Draper.
