University High School’s annual Prism event showcased talent from the Performing Arts program. Chorus, theater, dance, and orchestra students performed for friends and family on December 16, 2023.
Many Prism performances occurred in several different parts of the PAC, keeping the audience suspenseful and unaware of what to expect next. “It was exciting and nerve-racking. Since it’s my senior performance, I am just trying to get everything in place for my favorite show of the year,” said senior Salo Cruz, who performed Encanto and Shanete.
Students enjoyed performing for the audience as much as the audience enjoyed watching them. “I can represent the dance company and the guard program, especially when I am dancing in a new group for this performance,” said senior Jocelys Isacc, who performed her rendition of Endgame and Liquid Smooth.
Students practiced daily to perfect their performance. “Jazz bands aren’t inherently hard. I think some things that can be difficult are rhythms and notes,” said senior Henry Findel, who played with the wind ensemble and big band.
For the seniors who have been part of the magnet program, this show allowed them to express themselves musically while expanding on their professionalism. “I’ve learned to just expect anything to happen, and just perform to the best of your ability, doing what you’ve practiced,” said senior Aaron Batwinik, who performed with big band and symphonic band.
